Trend Alert: Asian Influences

What’s on my radar for the upcoming spring season?

It’s not lavender.

It’s jewel-tones, silk fabrics, and floral embroidery..

Let’s talk about the trend that keeps on trending from behind the scenes:

Asian influences in modern fashion.

I’m not talking about Moschino or Alexander Wang (two of my favorite designers, mind you). I’m talking about taking it back to the roots of Asian culture and how it has woven intricate yet bold fashion flares into today’s trends. So what should we be on the lookout for this season? I’ve listed a few favorites below:

Jewel toned accessories

oriental embroidery

Kimono dresses

Silk fabrics

mandarin collars

fringing and feathering

Not your typical spring line up, is it? I love to throw in some Oriental features to any outfit, because it lends such an exotic yet noble quality to anything you wear (like this dress!) One thing to avoid with all these Asian-inspired pieces:

Combining too many of them.

That being said, push the envelope! Combine a silk kimono dress with feather-adorned heels and floral statement earrings. However, with such a traditional trend centered around floral patterns and bright, bold tones it can be easy to over-do it (even for the most fashion conscious women out there).

Use them to highlight, not confuse, the different aspects of your outfit.

We have so much to learn from traditional Asian fashion and couture, especially when it comes to attention to detail and use of contrasting colors and fabrics. I've handpicked some of my favorite pieces that reflect the beautiful Asian cultural influence we see in our modern style.
